Twenty-seven lecturers help the elderly to enjoy learning and consume intelligently by means of an elite consumer education training program

Date:2017-04-20

In order to respond accordingly to the trend of an aging populace, the Executive Yuan's Department of Consumer Protection (hereafter referred to as the DCP) has followed up on a consumer education training program for elderly citizens conducted in 2015 with another elite research and study session held in 2016. On the morning of November 2nd 2016, the Taipei City Learning Center for the Elderly announced that certificates had been awarded to instructors that had undergone training, with the expectation that these lecturers would continue to participate in promotion activities.
In the wake of an increase in mankind's life expectancy, an aging population is now already a global trend. In view of this phenomenon, in recent years the Executive Yuan's Department of Consumer Protection (the DCP) has promoted a number of related businesses. In addition to inviting foreign scholars to speak in Taiwan, holding forums, and publishing teaching material in the form of a consumer guideline for the elderly, the DCP conducted basic level as well as advanced consumer education training programs for the elderly. In regard to policy planning, the department completed a policy framework to protect elderly consumers. This is a highly significant achievement, with the policy framework urging relevant government units to strengthen administrative efficiency, while proactively fulfilling the consumer and livelihood needs of elderly individuals and providing friendly consumer advice and administrative relief services.
In order to implement consumer education, the DCP has reviewed last year's training effectiveness, and plans are being made for an elite consumer education training program for the elderly. In particular, the evaluation mechanism for the training process will be strengthened. This will ensure that instructors who pass through the training regimen can assume personal responsibility and act independently, thereby bringing into play the meritorious effects of one lone soldier. The training results of two instructors who have completed the training program will be announced in a meeting in regard to senior grade students in the elderly learning center advocating consumer concepts. It was important that the audience were invited to follow the activities and, in so doing take it as an opportunity to strengthen memory, heighten the effectiveness of learning, and enjoy the events through incessant laughter while thus engaged. Finally, the DCP issued certificates of training to the 27 instructors who underwent the training program. The department also stated that research and development is being conducted on new teaching materials regarding a compilation of elderly consumer dispute cases. In December of 2016, this material was made available online reading and downloading, and all are welcomed to reference this material.
