Be Careful Not to Mistakenly Visit a Website and Buy a High-Priced Secondary Ticket

Mayday (A Taiwanese popular music band) New Year's concert tickets have already begun to sell. There are 20 complaints of consumers who strayed onto unofficial websites and purchased highly expensive concert tickets for three days starting on October 1, 2017, and similar cases of complaints are increasing. The Department of Consumer Protection, Executive Yuan (the DCP) has called on consumers who are shopping for tickets online to make sure that they visit official ticket-selling websites and pay close attention to each webpage.

According to the DCP, consumers allegedly purchased Mayday New Year's concert tickets by searching for "Mayday" on their mobile phones. Consequently they visiting the UK website platform Viagogo, where they were urged to spend NT$11,630 (USD$ 400) via credit card in under five minutes on two “800 area” tickets. The consumers later find the tickets for sale for NT$800 on the Mayday official website, and request to cancel the first purchase on the Viagogo website were rejected.

The DCP has stated that the sale of over-priced tickets is suspected to in violate the Social Order Maintenance Act. To protecting rights and interests, consumer can report to local police units. The DCP will also transfer the collection of relevant complaints to the Police Department for handling according to law.

Finally, the DCP has informed consumers whose rights and interests are harmed when purchasing tickets to submit an online complaint via the website: cpc.ey.gov.tw >, or to file complaints at local government consumer service centers (hotline: 1950).
